HTC Touch Pro2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM update for Germany - released
November 06, 2009; [with touch-screen]
Finally HTC released the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM update for Germany. Maybe other localizations too?

Funnily enough instructions are partially in English - maybe HTC does not have enough German speaking staff? :

November 05, 2009; [with touch-screen]
Whenever we go to an event, we always video record it in full, because official recordings not always are available or are incomplete as companies are editing out some interesting stuff. If you are interested in HTC HD2, then you should watch this video from HTC HD2 launch event in Taiwan:

HTC HD2 launch event: iPhone is small says HTC + Steve Ballmer is laughing
November 04, 2009; [with touch-screen]
This HTC HD2 launch event was taking place in Taiwan so naturally neither European nor American media has been covering it too much. After all an intercontinental flight can cost a lot of money, not to mention hotel costs in Taiwan.

Unlike other news sources we don't care about HTC and their Android phones and their HTC Sense, etc, but HD2 is the first Windows Mobile phone with multitouch, so its launch is an important milestone in the history of Windows Mobile.

From the reports that we have seen so far, the most impressive 2 things are this: this snapshot where CEO of HTC is showing how small iPhone is (we have impression that HTC HD2 was artificially magnified to make iPhone look small, but we might be wrong):

... and the second thing is Steve Ballmer, who came to the launch event of HTC - first time ever - and he was laughing for some reason:

HTC HD2 hands-on shows: HTC HD2 is not bigger than iPhone
November 04, 2009; [with touch-screen]
Actually HTC HD2 is approximately the same size as iPhone:

... so all those people whining that HTC HD2 is too big (just because it has 4.3 inch display), that it cannot be placed in the pocket, etc., should shut up! The thing is, that HTC HD2 is thinner than iPhone and only slightly bigger, so in total it is the same size as iPhone. Obviously iPhone has tiny display (only 4.3 inch) of small resolution (2.5 times less pixels than HD2), so from the hardware point of view, HTC HD2 clearly is superior to iPhone.

Acer neoTouch s200 - unboxing video published
November 03, 2009; [with touch-screen]
Everybody is waiting for HTC HD2 so interest in Acer s200 has waned and s200 is now back in stock.

Just a reminder: s200 is one of 3 Windows Mobile phones powered by 1GHz Snapdragon processor (the other 2 are: Toshiba TG01 and HTC HD2) but s200 is very cheap, so if you don't need multitouch (HD2) or white color (TG01), then get it! Here is the video (recorded by a cohost of msmobiles.com podcast so this phone will be discussed on the next episode):

SmartRss Touch Edition Beta for Windows Mobile released, simulates iPhone user interface
November 02, 2009; [with touch-screen]
This RSS reader not only is designed to be 100% finger-friendly but also it is trying to imitate user interface of iPhone and some elements of this program resemble iPhone very much - like the back button that has exactly the same form like in iPhone.

Interestingly apart from RSS feeds this RSS reader supports also podcasting, i.e. automatic downloading of MP3 files over RSS feeds...

Windows Mobile powered Samsung Omnia II - an official cellphone of 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada
November 01, 2009; [with touch-screen]
Canada is a fantastic country - it is "a Scandinavia of America" and amazing place to live and visit. We are happy for Canadians that they got 2010 Winter Olympics that will take place in Vancouver, Canada. Canada is a great country and they deserve these Olympics, but do they deserve Samsung Omnia II only, or maybe something better?

Well, Canadian wireless carrier "Bell Canada" is the official carrier of these 2010 Winter Olympics and Samsung Omnia II is the official cellphone of these Olympics!

Now, don't get us wrong: Samsung Omnia II is a great phone but unfortunately it has no multitouch so it is automatically losing with HTC HD2. Unfortunately Samsung engineers still have old mentality and they think that nicely formed cursor button is more important than multitouch. Phone makers should understand at last: multitouch is a must-have feature and all things happen in software on the screen and not in hardware buttons...

Editorial: multitouch comes to Windows Mobile via HTC HD2 - but will it be good enough?
November 01, 2009; [with touch-screen]
HTC HD2 goes on sale this month (November 2009) and it is the first Windows Mobile phone with multitouch support, including zooming with pinch gesture. The question is: since Windows Mobile 6.5 does not support multitouch in any form, HTC had to hack support for multitouch on top of the Windows Mobile - but only in some apps. Will such hacked support for multitouch be good enough to convince you to spend additional money to get HD2?

Vaporware news: mobile phone powered by Windows XP gets new fancy User Interface

We are not sure if this phone will ever go on sale, despite the fact that this Chinese company is accepting pre-orders. However if you would like have a mobile phone powered by Microsoft software, with ability to run all regular PC applications, then this phone might be something for you.

New user interface of Windows XP phone looks nice and you can add shortcuts to the phone menu:

... and phone dialer looks nice too:

HTC not happy about progress of Microsoft with Windows Mobile, has new strategy
October 29, 2009; [with touch-screen]
A very interesting interview with Peter Chou, CEO of HTC, has just been published. Unlike most people who are reporting about Windows Mobile, we have met Peter Chou in person, talked to him one on one and even we were shaking hands with him.

In few weeks HTC will launch HTC HD2 that will be a breath of fresh air into Windows Mobile world and this phone will be cheaper than expected - available in some countries merely for 540 euro - and it is doomed to be super hit. No, sorry, super super hit.

In this interview Peter Chou, CEO of HTC reveals some interesting stuff, including:

For Developers: Project Resistence: Source code for iPhone and Windows Mobile port will be available
October 28, 2009; [with touch-screen]
We are not sure whether developing in .NET for Windows Mobile is a good idea as everything can be easily decoded (developing in native code does not have this problem), but some MVPs (those who got MVP for software development skills, not a regular Windows Mobile MVPs who are not developers) are busy: they want to release something that shows development process of Windows Mobile apps with .NET and they mean complete process, including submission to Windows Mobile app store (i.e. Windows Marketplace for Mobile):
